David Villa says he’s seen a player at Liverpool who’s even better than Kevin De Bruyne

David Villa rates one Liverpool player very highly, so much so that he has ranked him above Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne and Real Madrid star Luka Modric.

The Reds have been one of the best teams in the world over the last six years thanks to the brilliance of Jurgen Klopp and the players he has recruited.

Yes, the Reds have had a couple of difficult seasons too along the way, but as they say, form is temporary and class is permanent.

One player is the epitome of that saying, and he is still among the best players in the world for both club and country.

Where David Villa ranked Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk in his top 10

David Villa was an unbelievable player back in the day.

The Spaniard shared the dressing room with some of the greatest players in the world. He was a part of the Barcelona and Spain team that won absolutely everything.

From Lionel Messi at the Camp Nou to the likes of Andreas Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez in the Spain national team, he was surrounded by greatness.

Villa knows a good player when he sees one, and he has now blind-ranked 10 top players in a video on BBC Sport.

Liverpool fans will not be happy to know that Andy Robertson was ranked at the bottom, but another Reds star, Virgil van Dijk, was given a higher position – seventh!

That may sound a bit too low, but in the two positions behind Van Dijk, Villa placed six-time Premier League champion Kevin De Bruyne and former Ballon d’Or winner Luka Modric.

Arne Slot is worried about Van Dijk

The Arne Slot era at Liverpool is underway.

The Dutchman has taken over from Klopp, and there is a lot of excitement over how the Reds would fare under him in the 2024/25 season.

One big concern, however, is Van Dijk’s future. Reports have claimed that Slot is really worried about whether his compatriot will stay at Liverpool beyond the end of this summer’s transfer window.

Van Dijk will enter the final year of his contract soon, and if the Reds can’t tie him down to a new deal, they run the risk of losing him for nothing in 2025.

It will be interesting to see what will happen, but losing Van Dijk just before the start of Slot’s debut season would be a big blow.
