Arne Slot is now worried about losing a key man at Liverpool after contract talks came to a halt.

Not only does the Dutchman have to worry about picking up from where Jurgen Klopp left off, but there are a number of uncertainties within his squad.

Caoimhin Kelleher is one player who could depart Anfield – while there are also doubts surrounding the future of Luis Diaz.

Now – however – another player’s Liverpool future has been thrown into ambiguity, with Arne Slot said to be concerned…

Arne Slot worried about losing Virgil van Dijk

A story from TEAMtalk now states that the 45-year-old is sweating over the future of Virgil van Dijk.

The Dutchman’s £220,000-a-week contract expires in 12 months, and discussions over a new deal have now stalled.

TEAMtalk add that Van Dijk’s representatives are pencilled in for a meeting with the Saudi Pro League as the likes of Al-Nassr attempt to sign the Netherlands international.

It is said that Cristiano Ronaldo’s side want to replace Aymeric Laporte with a world class option, and view the Liverpool No.4 as a perfect target due to his contract situation.

Nevertheless, major developments regarding Van Dijk are unlikely to take place anytime soon, as the 32-year-old is delaying a decision on his future until UEFA EURO 2024 is over.

Liverpool are preparing themselves

Liverpool have been on the hunt for a new central defender anyway this summer after Joel Matip was released upon the expiry of his contract, and have already gathered several options – so it is entirely possible that two are signed rather than one if Van Dijk departs.

A story from The Athletic claims that the Reds have enquired about Bologna No.33 Riccardo Calafiori, who is currently impressing with Italy at UEFA EURO 2024.

Furthermore, TBR Football understands that Lille No.15 Leny Yoro is firmly in Liverpool’s sights, although there is fierce competition from Manchester United and Real Madrid.

Additionally, the Daily Mail believe Liverpool are also monitoring Crystal Palace No.6 and England international Marc Guehi, so Michael Edwards – CEO of Football at Anfield – has plenty of options to pursue, to say the least.
