Arsenal have had plenty of memorable players over the years, ranging from iconic to underrated stars in their own right.

Many of these came during the Arsene Wenger era, as his 22 years at the club saw quite a few shrewd deals.

Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira and Dennis Bergkamp are just a few that come to mind, while a few others late in his Arsenal career were slightly underrated as success was hard to come by.

So much so that one former Arsenal star managed to receive some praise from another Premier League superstar in David Silva.

David Silva names former Arsenal star Santi Cazorla in best XI

David Silva is one of the greatest players to have graced the midfield, with his technical quality knitting together the early success of Manchester City.

During his career, he played with plenty of the modern greats in football, making it tough for him to pick just one best starting team.

However, that was exactly what he was asked to do when speaking with TNT Sports, picking the likes of Iker Casillas, Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta and more.

Included in there was also Arsenal icon Santi Cazorla, placing him as the best attacking midfielder he has played with.

It wouldn’t be the first time that the Spaniard has come in for such praise, having been known as a magician from his time at the Emirates Stadium.

A lot of his career at Arsenal was unfortunately impacted by a serious injury, before he made his return to playing again.

Regardless of that, there were plenty of bright sparks, which included his time playing alongside Silva in the Spanish national team.

What Arsene Wenger once said about Santi Cazorla speaks volumes

Due to his injury troubles and general lack of major trophies at Arsenal, sometimes Cazorla’s impact can be overlooked when speaking about the greats of the club’s history.

However, he was just that, with some of the magic he produced on the football pitch defying belief.

Cazorla could take corners and free-kicks with both feet, and his ability to manipulate the ball kept the opposition guessing.

Theo Walcott named Cazorla as one of the best players he’s ever played alongside, too, while the manager was equally as positive.

“It is a pleasure to watch him. It’s a delight to see what he did on the pitch,” Arsene Wenger said back in 2012 shortly after signing the midfielder.

“I hope every young football player in England watches him.”

The quality of Cazorla simply can’t be overlooked as an important part of Arsenal’s history.
