David Seaman has issued his verdict on Guglielmo Vicario after Tottenham Hotspur claimed a dramatic win over Brighton at the weekend.
Spurs got their top-four push back on track with a big win over the Seagulls. Of course, the stadium was sent into a frenzy by Brennan Johnson scoring in the 96th minute to settle the game.
On another day, the scoreline could have easily been drastically different. Tottenham were wasteful in the final third at times. But they were also grateful to Guglielmo Vicario for keeping the visitors at bay apart from when they had a first-half penalty.
David Seaman praises Guglielmo Vicario after Tottenham win
Vicario has not had the easiest time of late. Tottenham have looked vulnerable from set-pieces on a couple of occasions. But there is no question that the Italian has been an amazing signing.

Vicario has arguably been one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League. And speaking on his Seaman Says podcast, David Seaman insisted that he has been hugely impressed by Vicario.
“To be fair to them, they played well. Vicario made some amazing saves, by the way, yet again. He’s just getting better and better. That was a great win for them,” he said.
“He made two brilliant saves, he made one from Welbeck and then he made one from Mitoma I think it was. He went through and he actually toe pokes it and it’s quite a close range save. The fact that he toe pokes it makes it even harder for the goalkeeper, because you don’t know where it’s going, you see very little backlift.”
Light at the end of the tunnel for Spurs
Tottenham fans would have always expected some trickier spells for Vicario. Few, including James Maddison, knew a lot about Vicario before his move to Spurs in the summer.
He is also being asked to play a high-risk brand of football. Vicario needs to be brave on the ball. But he also needs to be alert at all times because Spurs play an incredibly high line. If Micky van de Ven is not getting to the ball, then it is Vicario’s job.
Tottenham remain a work in progress. But Vicario is one of several players with enormous potential in their first season under Postecoglou.
