David Ornstein has shared whether Arsenal appear to have any chance of signing Kylian Mbappe this summer, as he suggested that they are amongst the clubs who would love to sign the Frenchman.

Kylian Mbappe has put all of the world’s best clubs on alert with his decision to leave Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season.

Mbappe, of course, is probably going to be the most expensive free agent in history. Nevertheless, there appears to be a number of clubs looking into a move.

David Ornstein not expecting Kylian Mbappe to end up at Arsenal

Arsenal are one of those who have explored Mbappe’s availability. Mbappe meanwhile, would be interested in joining because of his admiration for Thierry Henry.

But it seems fair to say that the Gunners are underdogs in the race to sign the 25-year-old. Speaking to NBC Sports, David Ornstein suggested that Real Madrid are the overwhelming favourites right now.

But he did suggest that plenty in the Premier League would take him in a heartbeat if they could.

“Paris Saint-Germain always have thought there’s been an agreement with Real Madrid. But we don’t know of it just yet. Real Madrid set a deadline in January for Kylian Mbappe to accept their contract proposal, but that passed. So it’s likely he will have to settle for a lesser salary if he goes there,” he said.

“And that may make many people say, well what about the Premier League? What about the likes of Arsenal, of Chelsea, of Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United?

“The truth is the finances don’t work for them. They would love to do it. They would be able to do it, in terms of their own ownership. Just look at Newcastle, they could afford to do it. But under these Profit and Sustainability Rules that the likes of Everton have come a cropper with, they just cannot afford to pay the salary. So it would require Kylian Mbappe to drop his salary demands, or maybe find the money from somewhere else to pay him in different means. But the reality is the full expectation is that he will sign for Real Madrid.”

Edu will be wary of being used if forward is only focused on Real Madrid

All of the Premier League sides will be wary of getting too involved in the race. Ultimately, Mbappe and his representatives will be focused on getting the best deal for the player. And that obviously includes securing the best financial terms.

Mbappe is obviously a superstar. And the club who secures his signature this summer is probably signing him up for the peak years of his career.

But if his heart is set on Madrid and Los Blancos are ready to get him, then any talks with other clubs will surely be held with the thought of securing a better deal at the Bernabeu in mind.

It would be foolish for clubs such as Arsenal to not ask the question. But you would think that Edu will not want too long on pursuing a deal if there is no genuine interest from Mbappe in moving to the Emirates.
