David Moyes has named the Arsenal player he believes would improve any team in the Premier League right now, as the Gunners prepare to host West Ham on Thursday.

Mikel Arteta’s men can return to the top of the table with a victory at the Emirates. But they will be facing a West Ham side who have won their last two in the top-flight.

Of course, the Hammers have done extremely well to move forward after selling Declan Rice in the summer.

David Moyes praises Declan Rice

Arsenal smashed their club-record to sign the 24-year-old. But having the funds, and spending them correctly are two separate things.

However, the additions of Edson Alvarez, James Ward-Prowse and Mohammed Kudus have been excellent. The latter pair have scored nine league goals between them already.

Unsurprisingly therefore, David Moyes – whose comments have been reported by the Premier League website – does not see a loser in the deal that took Rice to Arsenal as the midfielder prepares to face the Hammers for the first time in the league.

“We’re all pleased for Declan Rice,” he said. “No one ever doubted his ability and, while we won’t be cheering him on against us on Thursday evening, we’re always looking out for him.

“I said right from the start that I thought Declan Rice was a top player and I thought his value could have been greater. We got the price we wanted though, and Dec got the move he wanted, so it was a move that worked for both parties.

“I think Declan would make any team more mature and improve any team in the Premier League so I think their current levels are partially to do with him right now.”

West Ham have done brilliantly to move forward without their former captain

Rice has definitely gone to another level with Arsenal. Already, he is proving to be a real leader, scoring crucial goals against the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Luton Town.

Martin Keown suggested that Rice is now one of the best in Europe. And it does appear that he is vital to Arteta’s system, strengthening that spine along with William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes.

West Ham fans always seemed realistic about their chances of keeping Rice in the long-term. But it really does appear that all parties have benefitted from this summer deal.

Having said that, Rice will be desperate to show what West Ham are now missing when they come to the Emirates this week.
