Darren Bent surprised Tottenham haven't yet replaced Hugo Lloris

Darren Bent has told talkSPORT that he is surprised that Tottenham Hotspur have not yet replaced Hugo Lloris, and suggested that the goalkeeper situation may be one Antonio Conte wants to address quickly in the transfer market.

Lloris has been an outstanding servant for Spurs for more than a decade now. The 36-year-old – who cost just £12 million – has captained the side for much of his time in North London. And he is likely to have made over 450 appearances for the club by the end of the current season.

However, there is no question that Lloris is now into the twilight of his career. And with that, it has become increasingly common for the Frenchman to make errors between the sticks.

Darren Bent thinks Tottenham need to replace Hugo Lloris

He remains capable of unbelievable performances. However, it does appear that Spurs are preparing to make a change. Reports from the Daily Mirror have suggested that they are looking at Jordan Pickford for the summer transfer window.

But Bent believes that the change should have come much sooner. The former Tottenham striker has suggested that he would have expected the club to sign someone else already.

“Lloris has never been great with his feet so I’m surprised Spurs haven’t replaced him up until this point, but you have to have someone to replace him with,” he told talkSPORT.

“He has made some serious clangers for Spurs and I’m sure at some stage the manager will look at that, and think it’s time for a change.”

You can understand why Tottenham had reservations about signing a goalkeeper. There have been spells where there have not been too many genuinely world-class stoppers available on the market.

Lloris meanwhile, seems to still go through these spells where he is outstanding. He manages to remind everyone of just how good he can be on his day.

But it does feel that a ruthless decision in the summer may benefit everyone. Lloris is not going to want to sit on the bench for prolonged periods at this stage of his career. And it does seem that Spurs need a better player in that position if they are going to kick on.

It remains to be seen who that will be. But it is hard to disagree with Bent’s view that a change is needed.
