Darren Bent has predicted how the match between Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United and Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford will pan out.

United and Tottenham will lock horns with each other in the Premier League on Sunday.

So, what has Darren Bent said about Manchester United against Tottenham Hotspur? Let’s take a look.

Darren Bent backs Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United

Well, Manchester United will take on Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday.

United are ninth in the Premier League table with 31 points from 20 matches, while Spurs are fifth.

Tottenham have picked up 39 points from 20 matches and are just a point behind North London rivals and fourth-placed Arsenal. Ange Postecoglou’s side are six points behind leaders Liverpool.

Former Tottenham striker and talkSPORT pundit Darren Bent has backed Spurs to pick up all three points against the Red Devils.

When asked for his prediction, Bent said on talkSPORT (5:44 pm, January 12, 2024): “2-1 Spurs. I really think 2-0.”

Interestingly, BBC pundit and former Derby County player Robbie Savage has also backed Spurs to win 2-1.

Savage told Football365: “First goal will be crucial in this game. The way Spurs play with that front-footed attacking football, playing a high line, that may play into Manchester United’s hands.

“Especially with the pace out wide. Garnacho and Rashford on the left and the right. Hojlund’s pace.

“If Spurs do pay a high line, McTominay’s runs from midfield – if he starts – that may play into Manchester United’s hands.

“The first goal is so important. I think Spurs will get that. They will be brave, they will be positive. Front footed football.

“I think they’ll go to Old Trafford thinking that they can do a double over Manchester United for the first time since 1989/90.”

Sky Sports pundit and former Arsenal star Paul Merson believes that the match will end in a draw.

My View: Tottenham Hotspur will win

I am backing Tottenham Hotspur to win against Manchester United at Old Trafford. In my opinion, Spurs will pick up all three points from the Premier League game courtesy of a 2-1 victory.

United have been a very inconsistent team, and it is not always easy to predict which side will turn up on a given day. Erik ten Hag’s side have won two and lost three of their last six Premier League games.

Playing at home will bring its own pressure for United, but they will also have the backing of the crowd.

Tottenham, who have been linked with Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, will play fast, high-intensity and attacking football, and I believe that the North London club will score at least two goals.

Spurs are in better form as well. The North London club have won four of their last five Premier League games.
