Darren Bent has questions regarding Leeds move to sign Manchester United winger Dan James
Darren Bent has told TalkSPORT (Tuesday, 8.30AM) that he cannot see Dan James starting for Leeds, ahead of a move from Manchester United.
The Wales winger clocked up 74 appearances for Manchester United after joining the club in the summer of 2019 from Swansea City.
Just a few months earlier, James almost joined Leeds – picking a number and passing a medical. But Swansea pulled the plug on a move for James.
Asked about the move to Leeds, ex-England striker Bent questioned whether James would start for Leeds – over Raphinha or Jack Harrison.
“100% a good fee for Manchester United,” Bent said. “Bielsa has wanted him for a while, but he isn’t Harrison or Raphinha.
“So unless they expect Raphinha to leave, I see him going from bench to bench. I can’t see him starting over Harrison or Raphinha.”
Bent on James: Bielsa to change Leeds star’s position?
The chances of Leeds letting Raphinha leave this summer are zero. But, the chances of Marcelo Bielsa changing Raphinha’s position are greater.
Bielsa is hardly going to change his 4-1-4-1 formation that has seen Leeds gain promotion and then shine in their first Premier League campaign.
But Leeds do have a problem positon, the more attacking of the two central midfielders. Rodrigo and Tyler Roberts have been used there of late.
Neither have done enough to make the position their own – especially given both are naturally strikers. Raphinha, though, might be perfect for the role.
It could see a midfield of Harrison and James on the wings, with Raphinha and Dallas behind Patrick Bamford. Time will tell.
