After leaving Everton as a free agent this summer, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is now closing on a move to Leeds United.
Despite signing Lukas Nmecha to add to Joel Piroe, Leeds have always been keen to sign another striker for their return to the Premier League.
And it’s now being reported by reliable journalist David Ornstein that Dominic Calvert-Lewin will soon undergo a medical at Thorp Arch.
TBR Football reported in July that Leeds were in talks with Calvert-Lewin, and Daniel Farke’s side have now taken their interest one step further.
For Everton last season, the 28-year-old played 26 games scoring three goals and providing two assists – numbers he’ll hope to improve on at Elland Road.
Danny Murphy reacts to Dominic Calvert-Lewin joining Leeds
That being said, pundit Danny Murphy has now provided his reaction to news of Calvert-Lewin joining Leeds.
Speaking on talkSPORT immediately after the news broke, Murphy described the move as a ‘risk’, before then seemingly warming up to the idea.
He said: “Well it’s a risk, isn’t it? It’s a big risk for them because his playing record is so poor.
“I’d have been tempted to go with somebody a bit more reliable in terms of games, but, you could argue it from a different point – Leeds can’t compete with the big boys in terms of what they spend, so they are trying to find some Premier League experience and some knowhow without breaking the bank.

“So if they can get him fit, it would be a great addition, because he’s a talent, he’s a strong boy, can score a goal, can hold the ball up well, give them a focal point.
“But if he can’t stay fit and play the games then he’s not going to be as beneficial as it may seem on paper.
“But I don’t know, I suppose it says where Leeds are, they haven’t made a lot of signings, they haven’t spent a lot if you compare them to Sunderland, who are having a right go aren’t they?”
Pep Guardiola previously highlighted Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s biggest strength
Speaking several years ago at a press conference in 2019, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola made a very bold claim about Calvert-Lewin.
The striker was 22 at the time, and obviously a lot has changed since then – Calvert-Lewin now has a reputation of being somewhat injury prone.
But whilst he was playing for Everton alongside the likes of Richarlison, Guardiola celebrated the striker as one of the best aerially that he’s ever seen.
Guardiola said: “Calvert-Lewin is one of the best headers I have ever seen in jumping and flicking the ball.”
Of course, Leeds will now be hoping that the 28-year-old can rekindle that ability and reach the kind of heights that cause him to be a thorn in Man City’s side once again.
