Liverpool are set for what could perhaps be the biggest deadline day of any team in Premier League history.
Indeed, Alexander Isak is set to join Liverpool in a British-record transfer, while Marc Guehi has been linked to the Reds.
The Merseyside club have been flirting with Guehi all summer long, and as we head into the final hours of the transfer window, this situation remains unresolved.
Reporting on Monday morning has suggested that this deal could be off.
Guehi staying at Crystal Palace does make sense. After all, there are only hours to go for Palace to replace arguably their most important player just one week on from losing Eberechi Eze.
However, before this deal seemingly fizzled out, Crystal Palace looked at getting Joe Gomez on loan as a part of this deal.

Crystal Palace looked at getting Joe Gomez on loan
Speaking on Wayne Rooney’s podcast, Sami Mokbel shared what he knows about Guehi.
According to the journalist, Crystal Palace looked at getting Joe Gomez on loan as a part of this deal.
“They’re looking to get another one, a more experienced one over the line. They were trying to get Joe Gomez on loan, as part of the Guehi deal. But with Ibrahima Konate tonight getting injured and Joe Gomez coming on and playing well, I just wonder if that has changed the dynamic,” Mokbel said.
“Liverpool have said that he wasn’t available on a loan, right? I think there was an element this afternoon where Liverpool might have been thinking about changing their minds to facilitate that Guehi deal.
“But having watched the Liverpool game, Konate coming off and Gomez coming on and actually doing quite well, or doing well, seeing the game out, it was a part of me that wondered now if Arne Slott says, actually, no, we don’t want him to go and we want him to stay.”
Liverpool’s biggest deadline day signings
Liverpool are set for a massive final day of the summer transfer window, and they are set to break numerous records.
Guehi isn’t necessarily set to arrive, but this will still be a busy day.
Alexander Isak will become the biggest signing in Premier League history and the biggest signing in Liverpool history.
Meanwhile Isak will also break the record as Liverpool’s biggest deadline day signing ever.
| Rank | Liverpool’s biggest deadline day signings | Year | Fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Andy Carroll | 2011 | £35m |
| 2 | Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain | 2017 | £35m |
| 3 | Ryan Gravenberch | 2023 | £34.2m |
| 4 | Luis Suárez | 2011 | £22.8m |
| 5 | Mamadou Sakho | 2013 | £18m |
Missing out on Guehi is a bitter blow, but Joe Gomez was ‘outstanding’ against Arsenal, so the Reds should have enough centre-back cover to take them to the Premier League title from here.
