Cristian Romero now sends one word to Eric Dier on Instagram after hitting him in Tottenham celebrations

Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has sent a message to teammate Eric Dier on Instagram after his physical celebration on Saturday.

Dier scored Tottenham’s second goal in their opening Premier League win against Southampton on Saturday.

It was Dier’s first league goal since the final game of the 2018/19 season, and understandably the rest of the squad was ecstatic.

Romero, however, may have taken his celebration too far, and could be seen slapping and punching Dier as he was embraced by his teammates.

Eric Dier posted a video of the exchange of his Instagram story with the caption “I love you too @cutiromero2”, to which Romero replied “vikingo”.

Romero’s message refers to a nickname given to Dier by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who called him ‘The English Viking’.

It’s clear that Romero and Dier have a great relationship on and off the field.

The two players have appeared in 24 Spurs games together, winning more than half of them.

Romero has also previously stated that Dier has helped him settle in at the club due to being bilingual.

“We’ve always got on well on and off the field. The fact he speaks Spanish really helps with our on-pitch understanding as well.

“From the day I arrived, he was really good at introducing me to everyone and making me feel at home as well so I was grateful for that.

Dier is clearly a popular member of the squad, with Son saying he’s more popular than he is in South Korea.

Antonio Conte has looked for plenty of replacements within his squad this summer, but Dier and Romero’s roles as the right-centre back and sweeping central defender haven’t been targeted.

The two defenders face a much tougher test this Sunday, as they visit fellow Champions League side Chelsea.
