Alasdair Gold revealed on Football London last night that Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has picked up a muscle injury that is set to keep him out of the side for as long as four weeks.
The Argentine is arguably Spurs’ best defender. The North Londoners look a lot better when he’s on the pitch, and missing him would be a huge blow for Antonio Conte’s side.
Cristian Romero likes tweet suggesting there may be another reason why he’s injured
The report claimed that Romero picked up a muscle injury at Stamford Bridge during Tottenham’s 2-2 draw against Chelsea on Sunday. As a result, Gold claimed that the Argentine is set to miss Spurs’ return to the Champions League and also their clash against Manchester City next month.
However, the 24-year-old’s latest Twitter activity suggests that the reason he’s currently injured has nothing to do with a muscular issue – it was a result of a challenge by Chelsea star Marc Cucurella.
Eagle-eyed fans have spotted that Romero liked a tweet from an Argentinian journalist named Gaston Edul, who works for TyC Sports.
He wrote in his post: “Rectification of information that emerged in England: Cuti Romero does NOT have a muscle injury. It was a blow product of this kick from Cucurella. He will be back sooner than expected.”
We don’t know how accurate this information is, but the fact that Romero has liked the tweet does hint that his injury isn’t as serious as what has been reported.
TBR View:
When news broke that Romero could be out of action for as long as a month, Tottenham fans on social media were devastated.
The Argentinian was one of the biggest reasons why Spurs looked so good in the back end of last season. He played a huge part in helping them return to the Champions League, and having him in defence just makes them a really strong side.
However, when Romero isn’t available, Conte will have to turn to someone like Davinson Sanchez. The Colombian isn’t a terrible defender by any means, but he is prone to mistakes. That has cost Spurs on numerous occasions in the past, and that’s the reason why fans were really worried.
If Romero’s injury really isn’t a muscular issue, there’s a good chance he will be back in action much earlier than what has been reported.
