Report: Conte wants 'exceptional' £43m man at Tottenham, he's seriously impressed by his versatility

Tottenham are still hoping to gazump Arsenal in the race to sign Gabriel Jesus and there’s a big reason why Antonio Conte wants him at the club.

The Mirror has reported how Spurs are still looking to try and beat Arsenal to the signing of Jesus, who is expected to leave City after the signing of Erling Haaland.

And while Spurs’ interest in Jesus is nothing brand new, The Mirror’s report does feature an interesting line about how Conte will look to use Jesus in his squad. Rather than the obvious assumption that Jesus is being signed as a number nine, it’s claimed that Conte actually admires the fact that the Brazilian is able to play a number of positions. Of course, at City, Jesus has featured on the right a lot in the last 12 months.

Conte’s admiration of the forward being able to play those different roles suggests he could actually use him in a three alongside Kane and Son, rather than instead of.

It remains to be seen whether Tottenham or Arsenal can get this deal done. City have been reported as wanting around £43m for their man, and Arsenal have been widely tipped as being furthest down the line.

TBR’s View: Tottenham Could Tempt Gabriel Jesus

The longer this goes on, the more nervous Arsenal fans will feel about actually signing the ‘exceptional‘ Jesus. He’s gone from being a more or less guaranteed signing, to now looking at other clubs.

Tottenham are a club that could tempt him as well. The Conte factor is one big factor, while the offer of Champions League football is also a high draw.

If Spurs can pull this off, then Arsenal fans will be fuming. After losing out in the race for the top four, losing out in the hunt for their top attacking target will be difficult to swallow.
