Alasdair Gold thinks Conte could use ‘amazing’ Spurs player in a brand new position v Liverpool today

Tottenham v Liverpool is the big game in the Premier League today as Antonio Conte and Jurgen Klopp go head to head.

Spurs are looking to cement their credentials as both top four and title contenders. Liverpool, meanwhile, desperately need a win to boost their season. The Reds’ Premier League campaign thus far has been nothing short of miserable.

For Tottenham, the injuries are continuing to mount up. There could be a return for Dejan Kulusevski today. But Heung-Min Son is now out, while Richarlison is still injured as well. Add to that Lucas Moura not being fit, and Spurs’ attacking options are limited.

And according to Football.London, that could see Conte decided to play Ivan Perisic in one of the attacking positions in support of Harry Kane. Alasdair Gold makes the claim when predicting his Spurs XI. In there, he believes Perisic could be used as wide forward, not the wing-back role he was initially signed for.

Of course, this won’t phase Perisic. The experienced Croatian has played there countless times in his career with Bayern and Inter Milan. And at the end of the day, his versatility was one of the big reasons Conte will have signed him.

TBR’s View: Perisic can do a fine job for Tottenham as a wide forward

Perisic was signed as a wing-back but make no mistake, he has no problem in playing a more attacking role.

He has shone in that role for club and country in the past. Conte will have no qualms about using him in that way and Spurs fans needn’t be worried either.

In a weird way, it might work out for the best. Perisic and Sessegnon both attacking down one side might well expose Trent Alexander-Arnold even more. The Liverpool man has struggled this season, and Spurs and Conte will be well aware of that.
