Tottenham Hotspur fans who were hoping for a miracle recovery for Heung-Min Son will be disappointed to know he won’t be seen before the World Cup.
Son was injured in midweek when he took a blow to the head. It resulted in multiple fractures around his eye socket and the South Korean has needed surgery. There was initially some hope Son might play in a protective mask and feature against Liverpool. However, The Telegraph reports that won’t be happening.
The Telegraph reports that while Son might yet make the World Cup, he won’t be playing for Spurs before then. That rules him out of the clash with Liverpool this weekend. Further, it means he’s missing for the other two games pre-World Cup against Nottingham Forest and Leeds.

Son has started the season in an inconsistent manner really. Not quite at his usual best, he did get a hat-trick against Leicester City earlier in the season. But since then, he hasn’t quite kicked on and this injury is yet another blow.
For Tottenham manager Antonio Conte, having the ‘fantastic‘ Son out for the Liverpool clash is big. It could mean Dejan Kulusevski is thrown straight back in. The Swede returned to training this week.
TBR’s View: Good and bad news for Heung-Min Son
For Son and his World Cup aspirations, this is a positive update really. But for Tottenham, it’s the worst news possible ahead of two big games.
Spurs are already struck down by injuries at the top of the pitch. It means even more work for Harry Kane to shoulder and Son’s absence alongside the likes of Richarlison is a blow.
Of course, the good part is that it’s nothing long-term. Hopefully, if he gets through Qatar unscathed, Son will be back fighting fit and ready to push on from December onwards.
