‘Had a fever’: Conte reveals one Tottenham player started the game today despite being unwell

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte praised the attitude of his team today as they saw off Burnley, after revealing Hugo Lloris had played despite having an illness.

All the talk before the game was of Dejan Kulusevski missing out. It had been reported the Swedish winger was struck down with a virus, and sure enough, ‘Deki’ was benched by Conte, playing only a small part late on.

Of course, viruses can sweep through any team in football and Conte said before the game that a few players had been struggling. And opening up more on that following the game, the Italian coach admitted that his goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris, had refused not to play after coming down with illness.

Speaking to respected Tottenham journalist Jonathan Veal, Conte confirmed that Lloris had indeed been ill, but refused to be drawn into not taking part in such a big game.

Spurs will be hoping that the illness doing the rounds in the squad has now been gone. With such a crucial final day coming up, Tottenham need all their players as fit as possible.

The team will be watching on tomorrow when Arsenal take on Newcastle. Indeed, Harry Kane has revealed he’ll be dropping Kieran Trippier a text message ahead of the clash.

It will take more than a little virus of feeling under the weather a bit to deter someone like Hugo Lloris. People often forget that he is Spurs’ skipper, with Harry Kane only doing that role for England.

Lloris is the model professional and after talk last summer that he might leave, Spurs can thank themselves lucky for having such a quality stopper on the books.

If Arsenal do lose tomorrow, then you can bet Lloris will be right onto his teammates revving them up for next weekend.
