Conte backs Sessegnon to become important player for Tottenham

Antonio Conte has claimed that Ryan Sessegnon has all the ability to become an important player for Tottenham Hotspur as he insisted that he trusts the 21-year-old – in comments reported by Football London.

The last couple of weeks have nicely summed up how Sessegnon’s time at Tottenham has largely gone. He was taken off after just 28 minutes during the defeat to Wolves.

But he followed that by showing a lot more of what he is about in the amazing win at Manchester City. Certainly, Conte was full of praise for his display at the Etihad Stadium, claiming that he was ‘fantastic‘.

With Sergio Reguilon a doubt to face Burnley on Wednesday, Sessegnon looks set to have another opportunity to impress this week. And ahead of the game, Conte outlined just how important the youngster is going to be to his plans in the future.

“Sess in my vision has all the possibility to become an important player,” he said, as reported by Football London. “First of all he is young and has in front of him a lot of years. He is strong physically and fast, has a good engine, a resilience.

“He has good quality. Sometimes I think he feels a bit of pressure. But with me he played important games, against Liverpool, against Chelsea, against City. It means I trust him.”

Sessegnon has more than enough time to turn Tottenham career around

It is almost bizarre to think that Sessegnon is only 21. He appears to have been around for a long time. And he has been a Tottenham player since 2019.

He has made over 170 first-team appearances during his career. But there is more than enough time for Sessegnon to get his Tottenham career back on track.

He is a player who scored one goal every five games at Fulham despite coming through as a 16-year-old. And he impressed during a loan spell in the Bundesliga.

Conte is clearly a fan of his. All six of his Premier League appearances this season have come following the Italian’s appointment towards the end of last year.

And it appears particularly important that that appearance against Manchester City came so soon after what happened against Wolves.

There are going to be ups and downs along the way. But Sessegnon finally looks to be moving in the right direction, with a manager who is really ready to put his faith in him.
