Jose Enrique has urged Darwin Nunez to join Liverpool this summer amid rumours claiming Manchester United are also keen to sign him.

The Uruguayan had an absolutely sensational 2021/22 campaign for Benfica, and he is on the radar of multiple top clubs across Europe.

He scored 34 goals and provided four assists in 41 appearances, which is a truly phenomenal record for any striker, let alone someone who is still only 22 years old.

Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move for Nunez but rumours have quietened over recent weeks. That, combined with Manchester United’s reported interest, has worried Enrique.

Jose Enrique wants Darwin Nunez to snub Manchester United and join Liverpool

Earlier this week, The Daily Mail relayed talkSPORT‘s story on how Manchester United are ‘pursuing’ Nunez and that the Uruguayan is actually open to joining Erik Ten Hag at Old Trafford this summer.

This comes just a day after reports from Portugal revealed that Liverpool are ready to go all out to sign the talented 22-year-old striker, who is valued by Benfica at an eye-watering £85 million.

Enrique, who has been hoping to see his old club make a move for Nunez for a while now, just doesn’t want to see the ‘world class’ Uruguayan join Manchester United.

Referring to the report, the Spaniard wrote in an Instagram Story: “I hope this is not true and he come to us instead. Top player that can become world-class under Klopp if we sell Saio Mane.”

It really does look like Liverpool will lose Sadio Mane this summer.

Reports suggested yesterday that Bayern Munich are closing in on the Senegal international, who reportedly expressed his desire to leave Liverpool after their Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid last weekend.

If Mane does go, Liverpool will need a replacement. They already have Luis Diaz to play on the wing, while Diogo Jota has also done incredibly well there. But, they will need to bring in a new centre-forward to bolster their attack.

Nunez, who has already scored twice against Liverpool, would be an exceptional signing, and a quick phone call from Klopp may well be enough to convince the striker to snub Manchester United, who cannot offer him the Champions League football that the Reds can.
