Collymore offers Kylian Mbappe advice as Liverpool eye summer move

Stan Collymore has told the Sunday People (27/2; page 58) that he would choose Liverpool over both Spanish giants if he was Kylian Mbappe, and suggested that signing the Frenchman would make the Reds even more devastating.

Mbappe is undoubtedly going to be one player to watch this summer. His contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires at the end of the season.

It had appeared that he may be Real Madrid-bound. But reports this month claimed that Liverpool remain in the running to sign the 23-year-old. And their chances of securing a deal have improved.

Of course, Liverpool already have a stunning group of attacking players. And the additions of Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz have provided a glimpse of what the club’s future holds.

Collymore suggested that Mbappe should look at what Liverpool are building and opt to head to Anfield if he gets the chance at the end of the campaign. He also suggested that the implications for their Premier League rivals could be seismic.

“If I were the Frenchman with a choice between Liverpool, Real Madrid and Barcelona this summer, I’d choose the Reds all day long,” he told the Sunday People (27/2; page 58).

“Liverpool are almost building a like-for-like front three to be the next Roberto Firmino, Mo Salah and Sadio Mane – and so far on is the project that, with Diogo Jota and Luiz coming in, they could almost afford to let Firmino and Mane go now.

“If they could bring Mbappe alongside those two and Salah, they could perhaps be even more devastating.”

Mbappe deal would see Liverpool do an incredible job in preparation for life beyond Salah

Based on this season, it is going to be some time before Liverpool have to think about replacing Mohamed Salah. He has arguably been the world’s best player over the last 12 months.

Somehow, he is possibly playing as well as he ever has done for the Reds. But as the saying goes, the best time to fix the roof is while the sun is shining.

The opportunity to sign a ‘world-class‘ player like Mbappe does not come along often.

The prospect of the pair playing together is tantalising. And Mbappe is someone who would not be overawed when the time came for Liverpool to move on from Salah.

Certainly, Manchester City would have to pull something special out of the bag if Jurgen Klopp ended the summer window with both Mbappe and Salah in his ranks ahead of next season.
