Coach says Tottenham-linked Szczesny is good enough for Barcelona
Tottenham Hotspur-linked Wojciech Szczesny is good enough to play for Barcelona or Bayern Munich, but should extend his contract with Juventus, his former coach Guido Nanni has told Tutto Juve.
Szczesny was one of the stars of the group-stages at the World Cup. He saved two penalties for Poland, including one from Lionel Messi as they made it to the last 16 in Qatar.
Unfortunately, Poland’s run would end there. However, Szczesny’s stock has certainly risen while he has been away. And with that, there appears to be a chance that he could leave Juve.
Szczesny good enough for Barcelona
In fact, reports from 90min recently claimed that he had been offered to Tottenham. Of course, that would be a shocking move given his connections to their North London rivals.
Spurs do need to think about a long-term successor to Hugo Lloris.
On paper, Szczesny has been one of the best around this season, for club and country. And Nanni – who worked with the 32-year-old at Roma – has suggested that he has the ability to play for any top club.
“He is a world-class goalkeeper, he has already worn the jerseys of top European clubs and can safely continue on this road. He would be up to Barcelona, Real, Atletico or even Bayern,” he told Tutto Juve.
His contract expires at the end of next season. But Nanni believes that rather than leave, he should sign a new deal with the Serie A side.
“I advise him to renew, why shouldn’t I do that? Especially if Juventus were to rebuild a very important team.”
In truth, it is hard to see any way in which Szczesny ends up at Tottenham. But if someone behind the scenes at Spurs wants him, his performances of late will only strengthen their belief that he would be a superb signing.
It would be an incredibly controversial move.
So perhaps it should come as no surprise that Nanni believes that he should stay with the Old Lady.
