Coach labels Newcastle-bound forward Garang Kuol a special talent

Central Coast Mariners head coach Nick Montgomery has told The Athletic that Garang Kuol has the potential to be one of the best attacking players in the world, insisting that the Newcastle United-bound forward is special.

Magpies fans are yet to see Kuol in action for Eddie Howe’s side. But the club confirmed at the end of September that they had agreed a deal which will see the teenager move to Tyneside in January.

The Athletic suggests that he could immediately leave on loan. But it is safe to say that Newcastle have few concerns about his potential.

Garang Kuol is special

Reports from 90min claimed that Borussia Dortmund were amongst the other clubs keen on Kuol. And of course, he is part of the Australia squad currently awaiting their chance to open their World Cup campaign.

It appears to be a huge coup for Newcastle to secure the 18-year-old’s signature. Certainly, Montgomery – who handed Kuol his first-team debut – believes that he has everything to go right to the very top.

“Garang Kuol can be as good as he wants to be. He has all the attributes to be among the world’s best attacking players — and I don’t say that lightly. It’s down to him now,” he told The Athletic.

“The kid’s special,” he added. “He hasn’t achieved anything yet but if he stays focused and grounded, he can achieve whatever he wants. Talents like Garang, who can turn a game with a moment of magic, don’t come around very often — especially in Australia.”

The Athletic reports that Kuol’s running style has been compared to Kylian Mbappe. And the player himself believes that he has characteristics similar to Sadio Mane.

The fact that he is being mentioned in the same sentence as those players is extremely exciting for Newcastle fans. And he is set to work with the perfect coach for his development in Howe.

Howe has done brilliantly with all of the club’s signings since his arrival. And he has shown throughout his managerial career that he is superb at working with younger players.

If everything clicks for Kuol, Newcastle could have an unbelievable talent on their hands.
