Tottenham Hotspur have been heavily linked with Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite in recent months.

For instance, the Daily Mail reported in February that Spurs and Arsenal are in pursuit of the Toffees defender.

According to the report, Tottenham are pushing ahead of the Gunners for a deal, testament to how much they want Branthwaite.

Now, The Mirror has provided an apparent boost for the likes of Spurs in their pursuit of the 21-year-old centre-back.

The newspaper reported that Everton ‘are preparing to lose’ Branthwaite in the summer transfer window.

Indeed, they are now said to be monitoring a potential replacement, with Hull City’s Jacob Greaves on their radar.

Tottenham target Jarrad Branthwaite is a ‘superstar’

Although Tottenham have worked wonders to bolster their defensive ranks this season, a player like Branthwaite would be an amazing addition.

The 21-year-old looks like he could be the Premier League’s next defensive superstar. At such a young age, he’s already looking a cut above in the English top flight.

Branthwaite has made 43 appearances for the Toffees and has also won six caps for England Under-21s.

Just last week, Jamie Carragher discussed the level Branthwaite has already reached at Goodison Park.

“This guy is a superstar,” he said on Monday Night Football.

“For a centre-back to control that with his right foot, he is a two footed player, the control with the right foot being a delicate touch with players around him and then to finish with the left just highlights again how strong Everton are from set pieces.”

Sadly – but unsurprisingly – for the likes of Tottenham, Branthwaite won’t come cheap. His contract runs until 2027, so the selling club’s hand will be strong in negotiations.

With a reported transfer fee of £75million being bandied about in recent weeks, Spurs will really have to think about what areas of their team need strengthening the most in summer.
