Chris Sutton has lauded Arsenal youngster Chido Obi-Martin after he scored 10 goals for the club’s under-16s in their emphatic win over Liverpool at the weekend.

Sutton was speaking on the It’s All Kicking Off podcast after the Gunners’ youngsters ran out 14-3 victors over the Reds.

Chris Sutton lauds Arsenal starlet Chido Obi-Martin

Chido Obi-Martin is one name football fans should probably expect to hear a lot about in the coming years. As reported by The Athletic, he has trained with the Arsenal first-team. And he has scored three goals in four appearances in the under-18 Premier League this season.

But that is nothing compared to what he did against Liverpool under-16s last week, as he found the back of the net 10 times in the emphatic victory.

Ian Wright lauded Obi-Martin last month. And Chris Sutton has become the latest to heap praise on the Denmark under-17 international, insisting that it is a huge achievement regardless of the level he was playing at.

“Have you heard of the name Chido Obi-Martin? There’s a good chance you’ll be writing about him in the future. He scored 10 goals in a game for Arsenal against Liverpool under-16’s. 10 goals in a game! I only did it twice, but not at that level,” he said on the It’s All Kicking Off podcast.

“That’s pretty amazing, whatever you say, at that level. Under 16 level, Arsenal vs Liverpool, two massive clubs. I mean, blimey.”

Another name for Gunners fans to keep an eye out for

Certainly, there will be plenty of Arsenal fans keeping a close eye on Obi-Martin in the years to come. Of course, Mikel Arteta has shown that he is not afraid to put his faith in younger players if they are ready.

Obi-Martin is actually a few months older than Ethan Nwaneri was when the midfielder made his first-team debut for the Gunners.

Nwaneri is yet to add to his tally of first-team appearances for Arsenal. However, his debut was a clear statement that the Gunners see him having an incredibly bright future.

The fact that Obi-Martin has trained with the first-team is telling – particularly now that he has made that huge statement by getting into double figures in one game.
