Chris Sutton responds when asked if Celtic should sign Tottenham man Joe Hart

Celtic are reportedly in talks to sign Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Joe Hart, after the Englishman fell down the pecking order at Spurs. But Chris Sutton has responded to the rumours. He believes that the club should re-sign Craig Gordon from Hearts, instead of going in for Hart this summer.

Hart, 34, has fallen down the pecking order at Tottenham to third choice after Fabio Paratici struck a loan-to-buy deal for goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini. Given he is on large-ish wages, Tottenham see no need for his services. A previous report claims Tottenham have told Hart he can go.

Fabrizio Romano reported on Wednesday that Celtic were in talks to sign 75-time England international Hart. But speaking on Premier Sports TV ahead of Celtic’s second leg against FC Midtjylland, Sutton thinks Celtic need a different goalkeeper to Hart. He wants to see Gordon back at Parkhead.

“I’d go and get Craig Gordon back from Hearts,” Sutton told Premier Sports (6.24PM, Wednesday). “It needs of resolving. It’s ridiculous they’re in this position. He’s choosing between two keepers [Vasilias Barkas and Scott Bain] who are not up to it. Celtic need to bring a keeper in.”

Celtic need a goalkeeper – Hart or Sutton suggestion Gordon?

While Gordon would be better suited to Celtic, given his 242 appearances for the Hoops – he is now 38 and captain of his beloved Hearts. Hart is still only 34 and just needs a bit of confidence in his ability to get him back to his best. His best, of course, saw him remain England’s number one for years.

If Hart is available for a nominal fee and he is willing to drop his wages to join Celtic – then getting him in above Gordon is a no-brainer. But if he proves too expensive, pursuing Gordon makes sense. Either goalkeeper would be a vast improvement on what Celtic already have.
