Chris Sutton has taken to Twitter to react to the news that Rangers confirmed that Giovanni van Bronckhorst is the new manager at Ibrox.

Van Bronckhorst’s appointment was confirmed on Thursday. It comes, of course, with Steven Gerrard leaving the Gers to take over at Aston Villa.

It has seemingly been a fairly painless search for the Scottish Premiership champions. From the outside, it would appear that Rangers have made little attempt to get anyone else through the door.

Van Bronckhorst arrives after making a bright start to his managerial career. The Dutchman won a number of trophies during his time with Feyenoord, including the Eredivisie title.

He has already taken to Twitter to express his excitement at his return to Rangers two decades after he left as a player.

Of course, thoughts will now be turning to how Rangers fare in their first few games under their new boss.

Right now, they have a four point lead in the Scottish Premiership. Meanwhile, Light Blues fans will be hoping that he can enjoy a little more success in the cup competitions than his predecessor.

He has labelled the decision to pick Van Bronckhorst a decent one. And he suggested that he was excited to see the 46-year-old come up against Ange Postecoglou.
