Tottenham face Aston Villa on Sunday in what could be a pivotal game in the race for the top four next season.

Yes, Spurs are some way behind Villa at the moment, but the north London club, on their day, are one of the better teams in the Premier League.

Villa currently occupy that fourth-placed spot, but with a win here, Tottenham would be breathing down the Villans’ neck.

This is a game that is very difficult to call. Villa have been better than Spurs this season, but the last time these two sides met, Tottenham did win 4-0.

Writing in his column for the BBC, Chris Sutton has shared his verdict on how this game will go.

Chris Sutton predicts Tottenham vs Aston Villa

Sutton shared his verdict on how this game will go.

Sutton has always been a backer of Ange Postecoglou, and he says that he does like this Spurs team.

However, he thinks this game will be a draw, predicting a 2-2 result between these two sides.

“I do like the way Spurs play but they could do with having Son Heung-min fit – he has missed three of their past four league games – and they have a few other injuries too,” Sutton wrote.

“Whoever is missing, though, Ange Postecoglou will not change his bullish approach. I admire that, and I find it amazing the way people view Spurs at the moment.

“They have won eight of their past 10 games in all competitions, which is pretty good I think, but there is always this underlying ‘Spursy’ or ‘typical Spurs’ label they get given whenever they slip up.

“That could happen here, of course. Spurs will dominate the ball this time too, but I have got no doubt that Villa will score, because they carry such a threat and their front players will definitely have their moments in this game.

“So, there will definitely be plenty of goals… but maybe there won’t be a winner this time – Tottenham have not had a draw since the first game of the season, and I think they will get one here.”

Unai Emery’s record vs Tottenham

Tottenham head into this game in worse form than Villa after their defeat against Crystal Palace last week, and Spurs’ record against Unai Emery over the years also doesn’t bode well.

Emery, more often than not, gets something against Tottenham, and the former Arsenal manager will want to do the same again this weekend.

Villa head into this game having only lost once all season long, and given how inconsistent Spurs are, this could end up being a statement win for Villa.

Paul Merson has tipped Villa to beat Tottenham on Sunday, and while Sutton believes this one will be a draw, it has to be said that the Midlands club head into this game as slight favourites.

This will be an intriguing tactical battle between two top teams, and it’s fair to say that this game could go either way.
