Chris Sutton has predicted the result of Sunderland’s Premier League meeting with Aston Villa as he named the Villans player he thinks will score the crucial goal.
Aston Villa are yet to get a Premier League goal on board this season, though they have at least managed to get a point from their Everton stalemate.
Meanwhile, Sunderland have done very well on their return to the Premier League, moving up to seventh in the table with two wins and a draw from four games.
However, Chris Sutton is once again not confident about the Black Cats’ chances as he put his proverbial eggs in the claret-and-blue basket.

Chris Sutton backs Ollie Watkins to score the winner for Aston Villa at Sunderland
Sutton has admitted that Sunderland fans have been “hammering” him on social media because he’s yet to back them this season, despite their good start.
However, the former Villa forward has doubled down, backing Ollie Watkins to score the only goal in a 1-0 win for Unai Emery’s side.
“I haven’t backed Sunderland to win yet this season, and a few of their fans have been hammering me on social media because they have made a really good start,” Sutton wrote on BBC Sport.
“But I am not just going to back them to win for the sake of it, even against an Aston Villa side who are short of form and confidence, and cannot even score a goal at the moment either.
“Instead I am going to say Villa will come good, and for Ollie Watkins to not just get their first goal of the season, but to secure their first win too.
“Apologies again to Sunderland fans for that – they can hammer me again this week if I’m wrong.”
Sunderland vs Aston Villa team news
Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris has received a boost in the shape of Dan Ballard and Enzo Le Fee returning from their respective injuries.
However, Luke O’Nien needs a few more weeks before he is fully fit, while Dennis Cirkin is also expected to miss out once again.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa are set to be without Youri Tielemans, Amadou Onana, Andres Garcia and Ross Barkley for their trip to Wearside.
However, Boubacar Kamara is available after he came off the bench in midweek, while Victor Lindelof hopes to be in contention too.
