Chris Sutton compares Euro 2020 star to Leeds striker Patrick Bamford
Chris Sutton has compared Euro 2020 star Patrick Schick with Leeds United frontman Patrick Bamford.
Schick, 25, started the Czech Republic’s Euro 2020 campaign with a bang on Monday.
The left-footed striker scored twice during a 2-0 victory against Scotland, which included a memorable finish from just in front of the halfway line.
Initially, he put the Czechs ahead with a headed goal after rising highest in the box. Afterwards, he netted a stunner that is going to take some beating for goal of the tournament.
He’s now the joint-highest goalscorer (2) in this summer’s international competition alongside Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Belgium’s Romelu Lukaku.
Pundit Sutton has claimed he can see similarities between Schick and Bamford in their style of play, as well as Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
“I’m sure Schick could do a job in the Premier League if any clubs are looking for a striker — and they’ll be well aware of his presence after his goals against Scotland. He’s got a bit of Patrick Bamford or Dominic Calvert-Lewin about him,” Sutton wrote for the Daily Mail.
“A major strength of Schick’s game is his movement. He will look for any spaces left by defenders which he can make his own.”
Leeds could do with genuine competition for Patrick Bamford
Schick, who plays for Bayer Leverkusen in Germany, is surely going to be worth a large transfer fee as his reputation stars to soar.
However, it’s worth Leeds’ scouting team trying to find someone in the same mould.
If Bamford is ever unavailable at Elland Road, he leaves a huge hole in the starting XI.
Whites attacker Rodrigo Moreno has shown he’s a top talent that could be key next year, but at times he’s most effective dropping deeper into a number 10 positions.
