Chelsea are looking like a team that means business in 2025-26, with the Blues unbeaten in their first three Premier League games this season.
Enzo Maresca’s squad has been bolstered over the summer, with Chelsea signing Joao Pedro and a host of other big-name stars.
Chelsea fans will hope their side are in the Premier League title race this season, with the West London outfit boasting one of the strongest squads in the division.
However, reflecting on the Blues’ summer business, Maresca’s men may well have missed a golden opportunity not to sign a world-class star.

Gianluigi Donnarumma would have been perfect for Chelsea
Chelsea have retained faith in goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, despite him being at fault for a number of goals the side conceded last season.
While other teams such as Manchester City and Manchester United boosted their options between the sticks, the Blues did not sign a keeper over the summer.
Gianluigi Donnarumma’s future at Paris Saint-Germain looked decidedly uncertain early in the summer and the Italian international signed for City to replace Ederson.
For Chelsea, this feels like a missed opportunity to improve their goalkeeping options, especially given Donnarumma is widely regarded as one of the best players in his position on the planet.
Spotlight on Sanchez
Sanchez has proven himself as a capable goalkeeper at both Brighton and Chelsea, with the Spanish stopper capable of making exhilarating saves.
The 27-year-old is also adept at playing out from the back and comfortable with the ball at his feet, which is a major part of why he is a Maresca favourite.

However, with overplaying costing Chelsea last season on occasions, Donnarumma would have been an upgrade on Sanchez.
While going toe-to-toe with City for the Italian could have sparked a bidding war, it was evident earlier in the summer that Donnarumma would be leaving PSG – Chelsea should have moved sooner to land the world-class star.
