Chelsea told to 'watch out' for Tottenham in race to sign Denzel Dumfries

Italian outlet Tuttosport have warned Chelsea to ‘watch out’ for Tottenham Hotspur as Antonio Conte eyes a move to sign Inter Milan star Denzel Dumfries.

The 26-year-old, branded as an ‘amazing’ player, only joined the Nerazzurri last year. He has played 65 times for Inter and has helped them win the Italian Cup and the Italian Super Cup since switching PSV Eindhoven for the San Siro.

It’s no secret at all that Tottenham want an upgrade on Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty at right wing-back.

Spurs have been linked with a move to sign plenty of players in that position over the last few months, but it looks like Conte’s eyes are on Dumfries now.

The report claims that Spurs have joined Chelsea in the race to sign the Dutch international in 2023. It has been claimed that the Blues have been watching him for weeks, but they are not the only suitor now.

The outlet has warned Graham Potter’s side to ‘watch out for Spurs’ in the race to sign Dumfries.

The North Londoners feel the defender’s profile is an ‘interesting’ one, and they’re keen to sign him – irrespective of whether Conte stays at the helm beyond the end of this season or not.

Inter’s owners apparently view Dumfries as the ‘most transferable’ player in their squad at the moment. They want to bring in as much money as possible for him, which is why they want a bidding war to take place between Tottenham and Chelsea, starting at £25.75 million (€30m).

TBR View:

Dumfries is definitely not the best right-wing-back in the world, but he is a better player than both Emerson and Doherty.

The Brazilian, who joined Spurs from Barcelona last year, has been really poor. He has shown occasional flashes of brilliance, but his lack of quality – especially in Conte’s system – is evident for everyone to see.

If Spurs want to go to the next level under the Italian, they need top-quality wing-backs, and as good as Emerson is, he’s just not quite good enough at this moment in time.

A move for Dumfries makes a lot of sense, and it will be interesting to see if Conte can convince the Dutchman to snub Chelsea and move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in January.
