TBR Football can exclusively reveal that Chelsea have informed Boca Juniors that they are bringing Aaron Anselmino to the club in January.

The Blues beat off competition from Manchester United and other clubs to sign Anselmino back in August for a deal worth around £17 million.

Chelsea had initially planned to leave him in South America until next summer but TBR Football has now been informed that Chelsea have brought that forward to January.

Chelsea ready to bring in Aaron Anselmino in January

Chelsea are ready to fast-track their move to bring in Boca Juniors defender Aaron Anselmino and add him to Enzo Maresca’s squad in January, sources have told TBR Football’s chief correspondent Graeme Bailey.

The West London club were hoping to add to their defence in the winter window but are keen to take a closer look at Anselmino before making a decision.

The 19-year-old will join Maresca’s squad on January 3 and the Italian head coach will have a chance to look over him before deciding his next move.

TBR Football have been told the teenager could be loaned out to a club in Europe, but Maresca may decide to keep him in West London as a defensive option.

Should Anselmino join the first-team group, that would mean them not bringing in another central defender in January but that decision has not yet been made.

Chelsea’s current centre-back options include Levi Colwill, Tosin Adarabioyo, Beniot Badiashile, Axel Disasi, Wesley Fofana and Renato Veiga.

Aaron Anselmino backed to challenge Cristian Romero and Lisandro Martinez

Boca president and former Argentina international Juan Roman Riquelme has expressed his admiration for Aaron Anselmino. The Argentine legend has backed the Chelsea defender to play for the national team in the near football.

Riquelme admitted that his progression has been really impressive and he is on his way to becoming a great footballer who could challenge the likes of Cristian Romero and Lisandro Martinez.

Riquelme told the media: “He has developed a lot. With the growth, the head that he has and the desire to learn that he shows, he is on his way to being a great footballer. He is going to be a player for the national team. He is going to compete with the centre-backs.”
