- EXCLUSIVE with Graeme Bailey
Chelsea have now beaten Manchester United and Newcastle to a signing.
The Blues currently find themselves in a difficult situation, after Enzo Fernandez angered some of his fellow Chelsea teammates with a controversial song in the aftermath of Argentina’s Copa America win – leading to a few unfollowing the South American on social media and criticising him in the media.
In the meantime – however – Chelsea have just beaten Manchester United and Newcastle to the signature of another Argentinian player…
Chelsea win race to sign Aaron Anselmino
TBR Football understand that Chelsea have now completed the signing of Aaron Anselmino.
The 19-year-old will cost the Blues a sum of £17m, and those at Stamford Bridge are expected to make an announcement shortly.
Sources have also informed TBR Football that Anselmino will be loaned back to Boca Juniors for the remainder of 2024 – before linking up with Chelsea in January.
The teenager has been a key man for Boca Juniors so far this season, making five appearances while scoring one goal from his position in the centre of defence.
Anselmino can also operate as a defensive midfielder.

While Manchester United were also keen to sign the defender from Bernardo Larroude this summer, the Red Devils have since made significant progress in a deal for Lille No.15 Leny Yoro – who was perhaps chosen instead of Anselmino.
In regards to Newcastle, the lack of European football on offer next season – the Magpies lost their UEFA Conference League spot after Manchester United’s FA Cup win – may have played a part in the South American choosing Chelsea.
Who is the Argentinian wonderkid?
Chelsea have already snapped up one of South America’s greatest talents in Estevao Willian – and Anselmino appears to be a similarly precocious footballer.

The Argentine has previously been compared to Bayern Munich No.4 and Netherlands international Matthijs de Ligt – while media outlets in Argentina have described him as “the great jewel of Boca” right now.
Anselmino has also been labelled as an “extremely fast” defender in scouting reports.

By the sounds of it, Chelsea have secured themselves a real diamond of a footballer – hopefully, Anselmino is ready to make a huge impact under Enzo Maresca when he arrives in west London in January.
