Chelsea secured a hard-fought 3-0 win against Nottingham Forest, but their supporters were not pleased with what they saw of Trevoh Chalobah at the City Ground.
Forest dominated the opening 45 minutes and could have taken a lead into the half-time interval after spurning three golden chances, gifted to them by the opposition.
Enzo Maresca then enforced a triple substitution heading into the second half, and two quick-fire goals courtesy of Josh Acheampong and Pedro Neto killed all of Forest’s momentum before Reece James dealt the final blow.
However, the supporters still had an axe to grind with Chalobah after the result, and took to social media to vent their frustrations.

Trevoh Chalobah couldn’t string a pass together vs Nottingham Forest
The 26-year-old looked out of place alongside Acheampong at the City Ground, and Chelsea’s supporters were in disbelief at how many times the defender gave away possession.
One supporter wrote: “We’ve got the worst defenders in the league, Caicedo made them look like they’re good. I’m now seeing why Chelsea always wanted to sell Chalobah, he’s a squad player, but not good enough to start for a club like Chelsea. Gusto, if I speak, I’ll be in trouble. Embarrassing.”
Chalobah was near flawless in the 2-0 win against Fulham earlier this season, completing 90% of his 58 passes, but the supporters were far from pleased with his efforts on Saturday.
“First Gusto , now Chalobah. Anytime they have the ball at their feet, I get scared,” another wrote.
While one fan wrote: “Chalobah doesn’t have any business being at this club. Seeing him playing that LCB position is just an eyesore. Maresca’s tactics is so boring. Cucurella and Chalobah will be in a position to attack with a quick transition, and they will pass the ball back or between themselves.”
Indeed, Chalobah has largely underwhelmed but he has established himself as a nailed-on starter for Maresca, having played all league matches thus far except for the win against Liverpool, which he missed due to suspension.
However, his performance has led to supporters suggesting he had more influence for Forest than for his own side: “We should get that Forest playmaker. I think his name is Chalobah or something. Excellent line-breaking passes.”
“Why is Trevoh Chalobah keep passing the football back into his own half every time he gets a chance to move the football forward? Chelsea’s defensive backs are a big suspect today.”
The fans are questioning how Chalobah is retaining his place in the side: “Why are we picking Chalobah when we have a fully fit and rested Tosin on the bench?”
Josh Acheampong must be a nailed-on starter for Chelsea
While the Blues were not helped by Chalobah’s display at the City Ground, their centre-back teammate produced one of the best performances of his young career.
The 19-year-old has been handed a more prominent role in the senior squad, and he rewarded Maresca’s faith with his first Chelsea goal to open the scoring against Forest.
With a squad as large as the one at Cobham, it is imperative to perform at any given opportunity to have any chance of standing out from the lofty competition.
Chalobah may soon find his position in the starting line-up under threat, but Acheampong will now surely find himself at the centre of the manager’s plans after his efforts on Saturday.
