Arsenal and Chelsea have been a constant thorn in one another’s side in the transfer market in recent years.

Indeed, it seems as though whenever either team hones in on a top-quality target, the other is lurking in the background.

Declan Rice, Mykhaylo Mudryk and Moises Caicedo are but a few players who were targeted by both Arsenal and Chelsea in recent years.

Nico Williams is another player who is now being admired by both London clubs, and, according to the Spanish press, there’s a clear leader in this race between the two.

Chelsea ahead of Arsenal in Nico Williams race

According to Sport, Chelsea are in fact ahead of Arsenal in the race to sign Williams, despite the fact the Spaniard is named as the Gunners’ priority target for this summer.

It’s not a surprise to hear that both Premier League clubs are very keen on Williams.

The winger lit up Euro 2024, scoring a decisive goal in the final, while he’s been shining in La Liga for a long while now.

Chelsea and Arsenal are both very keen on Williams, but neither club appears to be the favourite to sign him.

Barcelona move more likely

Chelsea may be ahead of Arsenal in this race, but it’s Barcelona who are the most likely team to get this deal done.

Barca have been putting in tons of groundwork on this deal, and given how much Williams loves living in Spain and his pre-existing relationship with the likes of Lamine Yamal, you can understand why attacker may be keen on a move to Camp Nou.

However, given their recent financial struggles, Barcelona may not find it easy to get this deal done, and the door could perhaps be slightly ajar for Chelsea or Arsenal to swoop in.

Williams is certainly in-demand, and there’s an outside chance we could see him come to the Premier League in this window.
