Real Sociedad reportedly held discreet transfer talks with Tottenham over the potential loan signing of Bryan Gil.
The 22-year-old Spanish winger was strongly linked with a move away from north London throughout the January transfer window, with the likes of Brighton & Hove Albion and Feyenoord all linked with Gil.
With the forward opting to stay at Tottenham, though, Gil’s decision to remain with the Premier League side could be viewed by many as an unusual one given his lack of playing time this season.
And according to Fabrizio Romano, Sociedad held ‘secret talks’ with Tottenham over signing Gil on loan, with the forward being loaned out to La Liga twice already by Spurs.
With the San Sebastian-based side in the UEFA Champions League knockout stages, Sociedad could have been a brilliant move for Gil and his development this season.
However, Sociedad could not meet Tottenham’s demands for the £22m player, with Gil now set to fight for his place in Ange Postecoglou’s starting XI.
Bryan Gil could regret not pushing for Real Sociedad move

Gil not leaving Tottenham this January was perhaps one of the more surprising outcomes of the window given how strongly tipped the winger was to depart last month.
And with information now coming out that Sociedad were interested in Gil, the Spanish playmaker should have pushed harder to join the Basque giants when the chance was there.
As we know, Sociedad are in the Champions League still and are currently one of the most exciting and interesting clubs in all of Europe under manager Imanol Alguacil.
Moreover, Gil could have thrived at Sociedad, with the winger clearly good enough to play in La Liga for one of the division’s biggest and best sides.
