Celtic transfer: Hoops reportedly eye George Baldock

Ange Postecoglou could be the Celtic boss to finally bring George Baldock to Parkhead in the transfer window, with the Daily Record reporting that the full-back is back on the Hoops’ radar.

It is a must that the Bhoys strengthen their right-back options this summer. Jeremie Frimpong moved on during last season.

Jonjoe Kenny had an underwhelming loan spell following his arrival from Everton. And, perhaps unsurprisingly, he has not been retained.

The club did hand a new contract to Anthony Ralston. However, that news did not go down particularly well amongst a lot of Celtic fans on social media.

So it should come as little shock that they are looking into what is available on the market. And it appears that they have come up with a familiar target.

According to the Daily Record, Celtic want Baldock – having pursued the 28-year-old back in 2019.

Baldock surely likely to find Celtic transfer a more appealing option this time around

You can understand why Baldock did not leave Bramall Lane back in 2019. At the time, Sheffield United had stunned everyone and got themselves out of the Championship.

And he was vindicated for his decision to stick with the Blades. They went on to enjoy an incredible first year back in the top flight.

However, should Celtic come calling this summer, it is harder to see Baldock, or Sheffield United, turning them down.

United are heading back to the Championship. They endured a miserable time last season and are heading into a new era under Slavisa Jokanovic.

Baldock meanwhile, has one year left on his contract. So the Blades may well feel that this summer may be the right time to sell should Celtic make a reasonable offer.

For Celtic, the defender could potentially be an exciting signing. The full-backs were such an integral part of the success Sheffield United had under Wilder.

So perhaps, it would indeed prove a coup if the Hoops succeeded where they missed out two years ago.
