Celtic must target Barry Douglas transfer after Leeds exit
Celtic fans are patiently waiting for news on their next manager before learning a little more about the players they plan to target in the summer transfer window.
The coming months are going to be pivotal for the Hoops after a hugely disappointing campaign. And there are a number of areas within the squad that need strengthening.
One such position is arguably at left-back. Diego Laxalt’s loan at Parkhead fizzled out, leaving Greg Taylor as the standout option in that role.
Taylor has divided opinion during his time with the Hoops. He has produced some outstanding displays. But he has come in for criticism from some of the fans.
So Celtic certainly need to be on the lookout for potential new signings this summer.
And perhaps, one superb option has recently come onto the market – and will be available on a free transfer.
Leeds United confirmed towards the end of last month that Barry Douglas was amongst those to be released. He had been on £10,000-a-week, according to Spotrac.
Douglas endured a tough time at Elland Road. He struggled to live up to expectations after an amazing year at Wolves.
However, he is a player Celtic are seemingly well-aware of.
Douglas a Celtic transfer target last year
Sky Sports reported last summer that Douglas was high up on their list of targets as they looked to replace Boli Bolingoli.
A move would not take place as Douglas joined Blackburn Rovers on loan.
But on a free transfer, surely Celtic have to consider another move this time around.
Douglas is a brave defender capable of the most outrageous set-piece delivery. He contributed 14 assists during his year at Molineux.
Understandably, some may be wary of a move for the 31-year-old after his time at Leeds.
But when he is available for nothing, Celtic would surely be wise to ask the question with several problems for their next manager to address.
