Celtic fans react as Postecoglou set to sign Japan international, deal agreed
Celtic fans are waking up to a new signing on Friday morning. Japanese side Vissel Kobe confirmed an agreement is in place for the transfer of their star striker Kyogo Furuhashi. The Japan international will travel to Scotland and undergo a medical. Celtic fans have reacted on Twitter, in delight.
No wonder. Celtic supporters were just beginning to grow frustrated and increasingly worried at a lack of activity. At the start of the week, only Liam Shaw, Joey Dawson and Osaze Urhoghide had come in – but they are prospects for the future. Certainly, they are not first-team signings.
But then, on Wednesday, Celtic completed a £3.5million move for Liel Abada – a 19-year-old Israeli winger, who has since posted on Instagram. Now, they will sign their second big-name player in the form of 26-year-old Japan star Furuhashi. Vissel Kobe confirmed an agreement is in place on Friday.
What are Celtic fans saying about Furuhashi, with agreement in place?
While Abada had the hallmarks of a Celtic signing – given Celtic’s business with Israeli clubs before – Furuhashi is all Postecoglou. While the Aussia gaffer will not have worked with the six-time Japan ace, he will have been impressed as Yokohama Marinos coach. Furuhashi is on fire this season.
Playing 21 matches during the 2021 campaign, which is ongoing, Furuhashi has scored a whopping 15 goals. In 110 games for Kobe, he has 48 goals and 18 assists. He can also operate out wide. It remains to be seen how much he will cost, but Celtic fans are buzzing on Twitter with Furuhashi.
