Celtic fans react as 29-year-old ready to join either Old Firm side from London club
Andros Townsend has claimed that he would consider moves to either Celtic or Rangers this summer. The England international is out of contract at Crystal Palace in a week’s time, and a new deal does not seem as though it is forthcoming. Celtic fans want Townsend signed, after his comments.
The 29-year-old has spent the past five seasons at Palace. Joining the London club in the summer of 2016, the ex-Newcastle and Tottenham man has clocked up 185 appearances for the Eagles. In that time, he has had a hand in 44 goals – a decent return given Palace’s defensive mindest.
Now, Townsend has told TalkSPORT, as per The Record, he is open to everything – when asked about a move to Celtic or Rangers: “I’m open to everything. If there’s an option that presents itself and it’s the best one for me, I wouldn’t turn it down just because it’s in another country.”
What are Celtic fans saying about Townsend?
Ange Postecoglou has landed at Celtic and it is clear he has been working on summer plans already. Leigh Griffiths spoke of how he and Postecoglou both want him to sign a new contract at Parkhead. Fans will be expecting new signings sooner rather than later, now that he is in position.
The Hoops need a whole new defender, a goalkeeper, a replacement for Scott Brown and Mo Elyounoussi and potentially for Odsonne Edouard. Townsend would certainly fit the category of replacing Elyounoussi. Some Celtic fans have urged the club to listen to Townsend, and get him signed.
