Ruben Amorim has been accused of mis-using certain Manchester United players in recent times.
Christian Eriksen doesn’t suit Amorim’s system, while Peter Schmeichel questioned Bruno Fernandes’ role recently too.
However, now, speaking on The Dressing Room Podcast, Carlton Cole has claimed that another United player is playing in completely the wrong position.
Indeed, according to Cole, Andre Onana looks more like a centre-back with gloves on that he does a goalkeeper.
Of course, this comes after Onana made two more high-profile mistakes for United in Europe this week.

Carlton Cole says Andre Onana is an outfielder playing in goal
Cole spoke about Onana and the way he plays.
The pundit made quite the claim about the £47m man, stating that he looks like an outfielder playing in goal rather than a natural glovesman, much to the amusement of his co-hosts, Wayne Bridge and Joe Cole.
“Do you know what Onana is? He’s one of those… He’s an outfield player playing in goal. He’s a centre-half, he’s a sweeper,” Cole said.
“Onana is a centre-half with goalkeeper gloves on.”
“Oh my God. Oh my God,” Wayne Bridge said.
“Carlton, that’s it,” Joe Cole said.
“I’m sorry,” Cole said.
“Listen, mate. He’s actually a good goalkeeper sometimes. I’ve seen him when he’s been at his best.
“He just needs to be consistent.”
Andre Onana mistakes this season
Cole says that Onana looks like an outfield player with gloves on, and, as harsh as that sounds, he’s not too far wrong.
The former Inter Milan man has made mistake after mistake this season, and it’s cost United time and time again.
| Andre Onana big mistakes this season | What happened? |
| Vs Lyon | Misjudged a free-kick that went in at the back post |
| Vs Lyon | Dropped the ball in the 90th minute to concede an equaliser |
| Vs Leicester | Mix up with Patrick Dorgu allowed Leicester to score in an open goal |
| Vs Brighton | Dropped a cross allowing Georginio Rutter to score |
| Vs Wolves | Conceded directly from a corner |
| Vs Viktora Plzen | Passed the ball directly to an attacker inside the box, goal followed |
Simply put, you can’t have a goalkeeper doing this sort of thing if you want to challenge for titles.
Chelsea’s Robert Sanchez has been criticised in a similar manner.
Onana received plenty of praise last season after some solid showings at times for United, but, this year, Onana has been heavily criticised and he’s been dropped from the team recently.
United have a lot of work to do this summer, and a new goalkeeper should also be on the agenda.
