Chelsea are flying in the Premier League right now.
The Blues have surpassed all expectations so far this season, and Chelsea are now genuine title contenders.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 1 | 14 | 11 | 2 | 1 | 29 | 11 | 18 | 35 | |
| 2 | 15 | 9 | 4 | 2 | 35 | 18 | 17 | 31 |
However, there are still a few hurdles Chelsea need to clear if they’re going to make that jump from being a good team to a great team.
Indeed, there are some issues in this Chelsea squad, and Robert Sanchez has been heavily criticised in recent weeks.
Sanchez has made a string of errors this season.
| Robert Sanchez mistakes this season | Result |
| Gave the ball away to Carlos Baleba for Brighton goal | Chelsea 4-2 Brighton |
| Accused of being scared of the ball for Liverpool goal | Liverpool 2-1 Chelsea |
| Gave away a penalty vs Liverpool which VAR overturned | Liverpool 2-1 Chelsea |
| Gave away a penalty vs Manchester United | Manchester United 1-1 Chelsea |
| Dived the wrong way for Dominic Solanke’s goal | Tottenham 3-4 Chelsea |
Sanchez was poor again against Tottenham on Sunday, and speaking on the BBC Radio Five Live Football Daily Podcast, Kevin Nolan has pinpointed the Spaniard as the biggest problem at Stamford Bridge right now.

Robert Sanchez is the biggest problem at Chelsea
Nolan shared his verdict on Chelsea’s squad, and he says that the goalkeeper is the biggest problem in this team.
Nolan blamed Sanchez for Tottenham’s first goal, and he says that the £25m man needs replacing.
“The biggest problem what I see with Chelsea at this moment in time, I think, you know, they’re obviously always trying to talk it down. I think the biggest problem is the goalkeeper. I think he was in a fault for the first goal,” Nolan said.
“He makes really bad mistakes for them. And I think if they’re gonna go on and go on and go and be title contenders, then they need someone else. But the biggest thing at this moment in time is that they’re sort of going, we’re not title contenders.”
Which goalkeepers have won the Premier League?
Nolan is right, Sanchez does need replacing if Chelsea are to win the Premier League.
Indeed, in the entire history of this competition, very rarely has a team managed to win the title without having a world-class stopper between the sticks.
| Premier League winning number one goalkeepers |
| Ederson |
| Alisson |
| Kasper Scmeichel |
| Thibaut Courtois |
| David De Gea |
| Joe Hart |
| Edwin van der Sar |
| Petr Cech |
| Jens Lehmann |
| Fabian Barthez |
| David Seaman |
| Tim Flowers |
| Peter Schmeichel |
Almost every goalkeeper to ever win the Premier League was operating at a world-class level when they won the league.
Joe Hart and Tim Flowers are the only two goalkeepers on this list who arguably weren’t at that elite level, but even then, they were very reliable at the peaks of their powers.
A goalkeeper can single-handedly win you 10 points a season, something John Terry famously said about Petr Cech at Chelsea, and the Blues need someone of that stature if they’re going to kick on.
Of course, finding that world-class goalkeeper is much easier said than done, but this certainly has to be the Blues’ next big transfer priority.
