Callum Wilson has told The Footballer’s Football Podcast that he has set his sights on returning for Newcastle United before the end of the month.
Wilson has not featured for the Magpies since the clash with Manchester United back in December due to a calf injury. There were concerns that he may be done for the season.

At the time, that seemed a massive blow for Newcastle. Eddie Howe’s side were second-bottom after that draw with Ralf Rangnick’s men. And they had played more games than all of the sides around them.
However, some of the pressure has eased. Newcastle are now seven points clear of the bottom three after a brilliant run around the turn of the year.

But with three defeats on the spin, it does appear that Newcastle are going to need another couple of wins to make sure that they are safe. And with that, Wilson returning this season could be a much bigger boost.
Howe suggested at the start of the month that there is a question mark over whether Wilson will return this season. But the striker himself, has set a much more ambitious target.
He told The Footballer’s Football Podcast: “I’m aiming for a return this month, I’d like to think, albeit it will be towards the end of the month. You’ve got to have a goal, haven’t you?”
Newcastle should be in position where they don’t need to rush Callum Wilson back
Newcastle are not quite safe based on their last few results. However, survival is not that far away. They have five more games in April. So they could easily have everything sorted by the time Wilson is starting to get close.
That would be a big boost for Howe. The last thing they need is to rush Wilson back and get punished by him breaking down again.
He is a player who could have a big role to play next year. But it is still good news that he sees himself playing again this season – just in case.
