Report: Southampton want to sign 'outstanding' international, but he's already in talks with another club

According to Sky Sports, Southampton target Callum Hudson-Odoi is in talks with Borussia Dortmund over a potential move to St Mary’s.

The Chelsea winger has fallen down the pecking order under Thomas Tuchel and there is an expectation that the England international will leave the club before the summer is over with. The likes of Newcastle are said to be keen on signing the ‘outstanding’ Hudson-Odoi, while Southampton are also keen.

However, Sky have reported today that Hudson-Odoi is also in talks with Dortmund over a potential switch to the German club. It would mark a move to Germany that is years in the making for Hudson-Odoi, who came close to joining Bayern Munich a few seasons ago.

Raheem Sterling’s arrival this summer has shunted Hudson-Odoi further down the Chelsea pecking order. Despite being highly-rated at The Bridge, the young winger hasn’t quite ever got going as he’d have liked.

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea will just go for a straight loan with Hudson-Odoi, or whether they’ll look to get Dortmund to commit to buying him full-time. It’s claimed by Sky that Hudson-Odoi’s agents will speak with all interested parties, too, before making a decision.

TBR’s View: Hudson-Odoi Needs Chelsea Exit

There is no doubting that Callum Hudson-Odoi has seen his career stall a bit in recent times. But there is also no doubting that he has bags of ability and could well be a star in the right team.

Players from England have enjoyed success in the Bundesliga in recent seasons and Dortmund would be a great club for Hudson-Odoi to get his career going.

For Southampton and other interested clubs in England, Dortmund’s interest will be problematic. They’re a Champions League club with a rich history for developing players and that, for the Chelsea man anyway, could be tempting.
