Report: Newcastle now want 'outstanding' England international as marquee summer signing
Newcastle United want to sign England international Callum Hudson-Odoi from Chelsea.
90Min report that Newcastle hold a significant interest in the wideman as they look to spruce up their forward options.
It seems they are keen on Moussa Diaby, but there is uncertainty over whether they can land the winger from Bayer Leverkusen.
That means they have Hudson-Odoi on their radar, as well as his fellow Englishman Anthony Gordon, who had a breakthrough season at Everton last term.
Newcastle want Hudson-Odoi
Hudson-Odoi got three England caps in 2019, but has slipped from Gareth Southgate’s radar as his Chelsea gametime has decreased.
He has faced a battle to establish himself in Thomas Tuchel’s side, although the German did call the winger ‘outstanding‘ last season.
Hudson-Odoi has a decision to make, especially if he wants to make a last-ditch attempt to try and get into the World Cup 2022 squad.
Hudson-Odoi has potential but he needs to start proving it regularly and the likes of Tammy Abraham have moved away from Chelsea and shown what they can do recently.
Diaby seems Newcastle’s first choice, but Hudson-Odoi would still be a marquee arrival, adding another England international to the group, and getting a player from a Champions League club.
It remains to be seen what the future holds, with Newcastle also in the market for a striker as well, with their interest in Hugo Ekitike well-known.
