'By a mile': Everton player told he is some way off Tottenham sensation
Gary Neville has claimed that Everton player Dominic Calvert-Lewin is still some way off the levels of England teammate and Tottenham sensation Harry Kane.
Calvert-Lewin, 24, is with the Three Lions squad this summer at Euro 2020. He made his tournament debut in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Croatia by coming off the bench.
Meanwhile, Spurs frontman Kane is the England captain. Therefore, he’s arguably the first name on the team sheet for international boss Gareth Southgate.
Pundit Neville has been comparing the England strikers and believes Kane is still a long way out in front of Calvert-Lewin.
“Absolutely,” Neville told ITV 1 (4:33pm, 15 June) when asked if Kane is undroppoble for England.
“[Kane is] the best centre-forward in the country by a mile. I like Calvert-Lewin a lot, he offers something different off the bench, but there is no way he would start in front of Harry.”
Kane will retire as an iconic England striker
Kane is no doubt in the elite bracket of players in world football.
Unfortunately, Calvert-Lewin finds himself playing understudy to Kane. But, his game has come on so much in the past 12 months, so he can be happy with the way he’s developing.
He netted 21 goals in 39 Everton appearances in the recent Everton season.
On the other hand, Kane finished up with 33 goals in 49 appearances during the 2020/21 campaign.
The 27-year-old Spurs attacker has the longevity. Additionally, he would most likely get into any side in the world because of his all-round game, as well as his goalscoring abilities.
