Eberechi Eze reveals the changes he’s already made under Mikel Arteta at Arsenal

Eberechi Eze has already been deployed in a number of different roles since making the switch to Arsenal from Crystal Palace.

As the story goes, Eberechi Eze made a late call to Mikel Arteta during the transfer window in order to express his desire to sign for Arsenal.

And the rest is history, Eze is now Arsenal’s new number 10 and he’s already contributed in important moments.

Despite Eze not starting against Manchester City last weekend in the Premier League, he’s already grabbed his first goal and assist in Arsenal colours.

And over the weeks and months to come, the England international should play a crucial role for the Gunners.

Mikel Arteta has already changed the way Eberechi Eze thinks at Arsenal

That being said, Eze has now spoken about the improvements he’s already made under Arteta’s stewardship.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Eze admitted that Arteta has already got his mind considering factors that were previously non-existent.

Asked if Arteta was already making him better, Eze replied: “Yeah, 100%. I’ve only just started and I’m already feeling like I’m being pushed and my mind is being stretched.

“And for me that’s where I want to be, I want to live in that place of getting it, but not getting it, and being able to work and operate but also be myself.

“That’s where you want to live, and I know that I’m consistently improving if that’s the case.”

Eze was then pressed for more insight into how Arteta had changed his thinking, given that Declan Rice said the same thing after his own move from West Ham.

He continued: “He (Arteta) is just considering details that you’re just not [thinking].

“You’ve got things that he’s thinking about that you haven’t even considered or thought of, and the moment you apply it and put it into practice and realise, ‘look at the difference this makes’, and then it becomes a habit.

“It’s not just one thing, it’s five things and you’re always improving, always getting better and for me that’s the type of people you want to work with every day because you know that they are going to get the best out of you.”

Eberechi Eze will have to prove himself out of position at Arsenal

Although Eze is adept at playing on the left wing, he’s primarily a player who thrives in central positions.

When winning trophies with Palace, Eze played as a number 10, and that’s undoubtedly his best role.

But with Rice and Martin Odegaard often occupying the central positions in midfield, the majority of Eze’s chances will come on the left wing.

After he first joined, Eze said he’d play in any position for Arsenal – he wasn’t fussy as long as he was on the pitch.

And although that will still be the case, Arsenal fans might also hope to see Eze get more chances through the middle, where he can fully show the scope of his ability.

Arteta was criticised for his team selection vs Man City, many seemingly felt as if Eze should have played instead of Mikel Merino.

And Eze’s future inclusion will somewhat be considered as Arteta taking the handbrake off.
