Tottenham may have hit a lull in recent weeks, but make no mistake about it, they’ve been the surprise package in the Premier League this season.
Spurs have looked like genuine title challengers up until their defeat against Chelsea, and some of their players have been utterly brilliant during this time.
The likes of Heung-Min Son and Micky Van de Ven have been unbelievable, but Spurs’ main man has undoubtedly been James Maddison.
Speaking on ESPN, Jan Aage Fjortoft has been discussing Maddison in terms of his place in the Team of the Season so far, and he believes that the midfielder deserves a spot in this hypothetical team ahead of Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva.

Maddison better than Silva
Fjortoft gave his verdict on the midfielder.
“I think I’m with Mark. Tottenham have had a great season, so that’s why I want Maddison in there, then there’s who do you have to take out? Silva has been brilliant and all that, but Maddison. Son could play up front too of course. If you see the numbers with Maddison I don’t think you can avoid having him in the Team of the Premier League so far,” Fjortoft said.
Player of the Season
Maddison doesn’t just deserve a spot in the Team of the Season so far, he may well be the Player of the Season so far.
He won the Player of the Month award in August for good reason, and if it weren’t for the brilliance of his teammate, Heung-Min Son, he’d have won it in September too.
Maddison has been irresistible this season. He’s been creating and scoring in important moments, and his brilliance has meant that Spurs haven’t missed Harry Kane one lick so far.
Maddison has been brilliant, and he deserves a player in anyone’s Team of the Season at the moment.
