Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has claimed that James Maddison is one of the best players in the Premier League.

The Englishman has been incredible for Spurs since he joined them from Leicester City this summer. He is one of the biggest reasons why Tottenham have been so good, but sadly, it looks like he will not play again this year.

In the defeat against Chelsea on Monday, Tottenham lost a number of players due to injuries and suspensions, and James Maddison was one of them.

The 26-year-old suffered an ankle injury at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this week, and he had to be substituted. The initial diagnosis was that it wasn’t a significant issue, but Spurs fans’ worst fears came true yesterday.

Maddison’s injury has turned out to be much more serious than initially thought, and he is now set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Speaking about Maddison, Ange Postecoglou claimed that the England midfielder cannot be replaced. He also praised his ‘unbelievable’ start to the season and branded him as one of the best players in the Premier League right now.

Postecoglou said, as per Football London: “I don’t think you can replace him, but the system kind of adjusts to the individuals within it, we didn’t create a system for Madders. We had a system and Madders fit into that he brought his own qualities to it.

“I’m just disappointed for Madders. He’s had an unbelievable start to the season, he’s probably been one of the best players in the competition and he was looking forward to striving for more.

“I’m disappointed for him that that’s been interrupted in the short term.”

Maddison will be a big miss for Tottenham

James Maddison has played a massive part in Tottenham’s success so far this season.

The 26-year-old has scored three goals and provided five assists for Spurs in just 11 appearances, which is an excellent return for someone who only joined the club in the summer.

Every Spurs fan was hoping Maddison would kick on and help Tottenham reach new heights, but unfortunately for everyone involved, he’s set to miss the remainder of this year. That is a huge blow.

It will be interesting to see how Tottenham will cope without their main man.
