‘Brilliant’: Lee Dixon left amazed by 23-year-old who Tottenham want to sign at the World Cup

Lee Dixon was left amazed by reported Tottenham Hotspur target Alexis Mac Allister at the World Cup yesterday on ITV’s coverage of Argentina vs Croatia

Mac Allister has played a vital role in Argentina reaching the World Cup final alongside Cristian Romero. The pair helped Lionel Scaloni’s men to a 3-0 win over Croatia in the semi-final last night, sending Ivan Perisic home in the process.

The Brighton midfielder didn’t start in La Albiceleste’s opening game in Qatar as they fell to a shock 2-1 defeat to Saudi Arabia.

But the 23-year-old has started in every game since and that shock defeat seems like a distant memory for the Argentinians now.

Mac Allister has been a revelation in the middle of the park for Lionel Scaloni’s men and his displays have led to him being linked with a move to north London.

L’Interista claimed yesterday that Spurs are now interested in signing the World Cup star, along with a host of European sides. And the Brighton star impressed once again yesterday as Argentina booked their place in the final.

Dixon on Mac Allister

Mac Allister completed 86 minutes against Croatia before he was replaced by Angel Correa.

He came close to getting on the scoresheet in the first-half but was denied by a brilliant save from Croatia shot stopper Dominik Livakovic.

The Argentine received high praise from Lee Dixon in the 79th minute after he blocked former Spurs midfielder Luka Modric’s long-range effort.

“I tell you what, it’s no coincidence it’s Mac Allister In front of him. He’s had a brilliant game in centre midfield,” Dixon said while co-commentating on ITV

Mac Allister has been in brilliant form for the Seagulls this season as he’s already bagged five goals from midfield in the Premier League.

But he’s now announcing himself on the biggest stage and has been key to Argentina’s success in the tournament.

Spurs are certainly in need of a midfielder like Mac Allister as they lack creativity in the middle of the park. The Brighton man has shown he is capable of playing in various roles in midfield and would be an excellent addition to Conte’s squad.

He’s going to attract plenty of interest after his displays in Qatar though and Brighton will want a sizeable fee to allow him to leave.
